I have looked at a '07 road king 103cui" police harley, 20k miles. It has been put back to non police. Also repaint to burgundy.

What do you know about the the '07 road kings. Were there problems. I dont know what motor they used in '07. I heard a few years ago one motor had cam problems.

The bike is very, very clean. Chrome, nice paint. He has to get a new battery before It will start. We had no way of jumping it. The battery has an internal short. Even my 400amp unit wouldnt turn it enough to start.

He wants 11K$. The extras are the fiber bags, winshield, Hines 2 into one pipe. NADA low retail is $10,325, high is $12,690.

He has the clear title. I havent seen it yet. It hasnt been inspected or register since '11. The horn doesnt work. That is an inpection problem. Juiceing it up all other items work. Just need to start it.

I told him if when it is running. I want to buy it with liscense, inpection, new battery, and working horn. He tells me that will be my job. If he does it. He will push the price closer to high retail. Tick me off. But he is the brother to a high school freind. Might could still make a deal.

From all my searches this is the most mint condition road king 7yrs old I have seen. He said in a couple of weeks. A freind is going to get him an AGM battery for $75.

Im not in hurry to buy. I just dont like the idea the bike is not taged, inpected and raod ready. With only 20K miles andan x police bike. Im sure it was serviced.

Dont know who the cop is. It has had 3 owners. But visualy it is clean and darn near mint for 7 yrs old.

Any Ideas, sujestions or what to whatch out for. Or even a web site that will tell me the good and bad of the '07 road king.

Thanks..

Eddie, check tires for wear, in 20K miles, they would be on their third set of tires. Look at the condition of the oil(smell) and check the trans oil with the bike in an upright position(off the kickstand). Ask for any and all service records. Or the dealer it was serviced at, follow up on this to see if anything major was done. It will help you negotiate the price. By 2007, the problems with the bearings in the cam support plate had been resolved. I upgraded my 2005 Ultra with new cams with gear drive from S&S(beacause the nylon automatic chain tensioners are ****), Timken bearings and a Feuling cam support plate The 103" motor was top of the line then. This motor had very few issues, some overheating of the rear cylinder(recommend you put in a HD oil cooler) and not so much with the rear head gaskets. That was more on the 110" motor that they cooked and blew out. This was the new 96" motor that had oversize jugs and pistons put in(103"). The police model ran a slightly higher compression(9.2 to 1 vs 9.5 to 1) and had upgraded camshafts. Most of these models were really put to use on the road. However to maintain their warranties, they had to be serviced on schedule at the dealer. I had a 2001 Road King Classic. Loved that bike the best, you will as well. Comfy, stable and goes like stink. The issues you brought up are minor. Battery= ~$100. The horn will have to be tracked down to see if its the switch, wiring or the horn itself. I would insist on hearing it run and take a ride. With that, you'll know if its worth it. I wouldn't take it unless I did those two things. Search any bike sale websites to get a general idea of what you should pay(ebay, auto trader, etc.) The paperwork stuff is not that important. Just ask why it wasn't. Personally, it sounds like a good deal, but considering it needs a few things, the price should be adjusted accordingly. My thoughts, Offer him 10K and go up to 10.5K. Have cash in pocket. It will ensure a sale right away. We hate checks. Its the journey, not the destination, good luck, Bob

Bob,

Thanks for the cam info. He told me the same you did. When running it goes like stink.

Despite my experiance he is real iffy about letting me test ride. Claims he had a freind crash another one, and never paid repair.

It does have the oil cooler on it. He is willing to ride me as a pasenger. Not realy the same.

I have a Harley dealer 4 miles from my house. I would like them to look it over. I know of alot of things to look for and listen for. But that was back in the carburated 74 cui.

This one is FI and he claims it has been performance tuned. High flow airfilter and the 2into 1 vance hines pipes.Has an O2sensor. I supose that has to be tuned for it.

I havent kept up with Harley advancements for 10 yrs.

He live in my nieghbor hood, one street over. He seems honest, but he kept droping too many ifs. And I felt he was a little evasive. He might have been playing a price game with me. When I met him he offered $11K price. Called him 2 weeks latter to come see it. He says $13K. I had to emind him about the $11k offer...LOL

It might be a perfect deal and Harley. I just hate the wishy washy talk when buying.

It really has my mind rolling on pulling some savings. It is very nice appearance wise for 7 yrs old. After looking at other used road kings. I was suprised it was an '07. It is garaged at his house.

Thanks, Bob any thing else you can think of Ill listen.

If your wondering about the time of this thread. I had a bignap today. Now Im awake...LOL

When selling/buying bikes I never gave or expected test rides without cash in hand. Basically worked out a contingency deal, if the bike isn't what you want after the test ride and is returned in the same condition you left with it, get your money back kind of thing. I've only done this with three bikes (2 as the buyer and 1 as the seller) but never had anyone have a problem with it.

Way too much risk to just let some guy ride a bike he doesn't own. No matter how much experience someone has..

Good luck, I know nothing about the Harley world..

If you have any doubts, don't do it. Police bikes are easy to get.

The price is what it is, not much you can do if he won't let you get it to the dealer for inspection, you have zero bargaining power.

Road Kings are the best bikes that HD ever made, especially black ones!!!

After renting a 2012 in Daytona this winter, I came inches away from trading my 01 black (of course) Road King in on a new one. They have evolved a huge amount in the past 11 years. Almost entirely different riding qualities.

I'd get a new one.

JD and drcad,

I offered to drop a retunable few hundred in his hand.

For a 10 to 15 minute test ride. He know where I live. His brother knows me.

I know I can handle it. I have rode my pastors ultra glide. I still have the M code on my liscence

He didnt like the Idea. Im going back today to look at serial #s and take pics.

I also want to see the clear title and the last registration of 2011.

No kidding thisbike is almost mint. I might find out something not right paper wise.

I know someone whe lost a bike last year. After he bought it . the #s didnt match. It was a kaw crotch rocket.
