George, If I want to go with my current 18x8" wheels, what size tires would be near equivalent to yours(285/75/16)? I have been trying to figure it out, but I can't seem to get it as the width and wall depth are different with each different size and width rim. Please help me with this! Thanks, DDST

I currently have 255/55/18 tires right now. I want to get some decent all-terrain tires that will last at least 50,000 miles (depending on my driving of course), nothing too aggressive. I don't intend to dominate the Grand Canyon or anything... :)

I believe you would need the 285/65/18 tires but this also depends on the offset of your current rims. If your aftermarket rims sit closer you may not be able to fit a tire that wide. If that is the case wheel spacers would be necessary depending on how much you need to move.

Take a look at BF Goodrich's website. My tires are called All Terrain T/A KO. They are not too agressive but give good traction and look great.

The all-terrain that KOs the competition. What it is:The tire that invented the all-terrain category remains the race-winning standard for on- and off-road performance, great mileage and a bold look that transforms the appearance of any vehicle you put it on. Who it’s for: Pickup, jeep and SUV owners who want to step up in looks and true all-terrain on- and off-road performance from their original equipment tires.

Maximized “aired-down” traction and steering control in deep dirt, mud and sand; more aggressive appearance; reduced noise; minimized hydroplaning†

Improved stress distribution (up to 12% increase in treadlife); enhanced resistance to irregular wear; better traction†

Excellent traction and handling on- and off-road; improved traction; and decreased stone retention†

Exceptional bruise resistance under the tread and in the sidewall

Stiffer tread area for precise steering response and better cornering control; excellent puncture and bruise resistance†

Helps protect wheel and tire from off-road hazards, especially during aired-down driving

Long life and increased durability†

Improved ride and increased bead strength†

Choice of distinctive raised white letters on one sidewall and black outline serrated branding on the other

† Compared to Radial All-Terrain T/A®

Thanks George, I have decided that I will sell the tires and wheels and just put the stockers back on. What would be the widest tire I can fit on the 7 inch wide OEM wheel but stay the same height as or a hair shorter than your 285/75/16 tires? 285 being the tread width, 75 being the tread/sidewall depth...etc. I will also be putting spacers only on the rear. Thanks!

George, check out my previous posts...2 posts down from this one and tell me what you think about those tires I found on eBay. Thanks.

The 285/75//16 tires are the largest you can fit on the stock rims. They are actually recommended for 7.5"-9" wide rims but the store said there would be no problems or danger. If you want a little smaller tire you can go with the 265/75/16. It is about an inch shorter and not as wide. I wanted to go as big as possible and that is why I went the way I did.

I checked out your other post. I don't know about Kelly tires but I think they are made bu goodyear. They have a nicer tread design than the second ones you posted. The second one look like a regular on road tread-not that's its bad but they don't have the agressive look. I just don't know about buying someone else's used tires. How much are you looking to spend on the tires?

George

I am looking to spend less than $500 not including the shipping. So around $550 or less probably. Check out the links and tell me what you think..... I want something that will not compromise fuel mileage as well. What kind of mileage are you getting with the lift, tires, mods, etc...? Are the 265/75's the next step down from your size tires? I know this is a stupid thought considering that a lift is a lift, but I want to try to prevent rolling the Trac over as much as possible, a fairly tall, and wide tire is what I think will help out. I want to go as wide as possible with the 7" wide wheel, but not extremely tall. I like the size tires you have, I was just looking for an alternative.

This link is for the Toyo's...

If you put a bigger, heavier tire on you are going to get worse gas mileage and slower acceleration. There is a lot more weight and size to get moving. I have an Xcal with a performance tune that increased my mpg to about 16. Before the xcal I was getting about 14-15mpg. I don't drive lightly and have to deal with the NY traffic so you should get better.

Even with the lift I don't feel the truck swaying or feel like it is going to roll. Like I said in the other post I recommend changing the shocks to be safer. Also, the 1.5" rear wheel spacers make a huge difference in the stability. You would be surprised what 3" can do.

I checked the tires you posted and the Toyo's look pretty good. I was doing a search and came across these Nitto Terra Grappler AT's that look good too. They are from discounttiredirect.com and I have ordered from them before. They give free shipping and prices look good as well. What do you think of these? $536 with shipping-not sure about tax for your area.

George

$536 looks good. Nice tires too! You think the Toyo's are good tires and will work nicely with the combo? You said the 265/75/16 will be the next step down correct? I will definitely be using the rear wheel spacers. As far as the XCal 2, I am using it with the rig I have now. I am going to Log it soon, then log again once I get everything complete. I want to get it running like a top! What do you think about a 6C, 8D, or 10E load/ply rating?

-Gary

Check a few posts above. It looks like SportTracKid has the Nitto's on his and they look good. I'm sure the Toyo's would be good too but I think the Nittos look better, especially now seeing them installed. I don't know about the ply ratings though.

George

They do look nice, a little much though. I want something that will mix on and off road ya know. Check out the tires on www.tire-easy.com I have looked at the 265/75/r16 tires. I think I will go with them. The 285's rub as you said correct? Do you think the 265's will be just as good, just slightly shorter, etc? Is there a size inbetween the 285/75 and the 265/75? Check out the Toyo Open-Country A/T's. Do you think I should go with 4 ply rated or 6 ply rated tires? Look at the Uniroyal Laredo AWT, Bridgestone Dueler 684 H/T II, BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A 114T ROWL, and the Bridgestone Dueler 693 II 114 SOWL. Let me know what you think. I am leaning towards the Toyo. Good performance on road and the tread gives it the assumption that it will be nice off road too. Also, has an aggressive look with the tread pattern and looks nice all around. What do you think? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I do appreciate what you have already done! Thanks, Gary

I found some Nitto Terra's on eBay for $461.89 shipped! What do you think?! They are brand new too! They are the 265/75's! Sound good? Or 285/75's would be better for the Nitto's?

Are the OEM casters/cambers removed and replaced with aftermarket lift/lower casters/cambers? Or do I keep the OEM's on and just adjust for re-alignment? Thanks
