A friend just bought a new 2011 Ranger. Dealer told him he has buy duplicate keys, SA blanks, from them (he doesn't believe them either). His key is just like mine and has only an "S", not "SA" so he should be able to use the Strattec 599114, correct?

If he needs a new key . Check around for a locksmith ,that is classfied as a automotive locksmith. When I bought my ST it just had one key . The ford house wanted $45.00 for the key and $90.00 to program it ,just the key . A remote and key was going to be about $200.00.

I found a automotive locksmith and got a key and program for $60.00. If a locksmith is a little high call around some are different on thier prices.

If he has 2 originals. He can buy the 3rd elsewhere, with or with out the fob. Then program it himself. Dealer is full of crap.

Yea guys, the question is about the S vs SA blanks. The procedure we got !:haveabeer:

But I agree, the dealer is loaded.......

Thomas, LaRue IS our expert locksmith.

Yup, when my ST was new, LaRue cut a 3rd key for me and I programmed it when I rec'd it. They key is to have 2 keys toprogram the 3rd key. Without 2 keys to program with, you may be at FORD's mercy?

The "S" series key is a 40bit encrypted PATS key. The new "SA" series key is 80bit. The 80bit keys will work in the place of the 40, but the old 40bit keys will not work in the place of the 80. As far as I know, Ford hasn't changed the programming procedures. They would tell us here at the dealerships if they had. (Usually!)

The new 80 bit keys,,, they suck, I have to pay 695$ for the new programming software and the 29$ for each key. Programming a 3rd key is supposed to be the same. And ford only changed 8 car models. And of course, they are the hot sellers.

Please NOte

The new 16091

(OEM# 164-R8040) is

backwards compatible

with the 16093 (OEM#

164-R0475). The new

16091 can be substituted

for the 16093. However,

you can not use a 16093

when the application calls

for a 16091.

if it just has an "S" then yes. I'm doing a little research on that so don't yell if I screw up. BTW the "S" stands for Strattec, I don't care what any one says.

Thanks LaRue.

You're not PAYING $29 for that new blank are you? The local guy I buy blanks from sells the "FORD" branded HA SA 80-bit blanks on eBay for $25.99 and the 40-bits for $17.99.

no,, I'm not buying any until I have the software to run them. I get the 40 bit for 16$, the 80 bit is 29$. I will find somewhere better priced, but I have an account with a distributer, so when you are broke:cry: you can still buy things. So the additional price can be/is worth it.
