Todd,

I've got 48,000 miles on my trac and have the original goodyear wranglers (factory tires). The guy at the tire store thinks i will get another 25-30,000 out of them. My friend thinks when I replace them I should stick to factory tires. I was just wondering what your experiences are on this subject and what I can expect to pay?

I am not a pro here, but what I have read, the good years are not very good.I have read that they skid easy and have caused many problems. The others on this sight can tell you.If you have money available, you should invest in a good set of tires. I have been running on a set of Baja wide tracs. They are sold under several different names. They are cheaper, but are good tires. The others in here should jump in and help on this._Ron

Blackhat, he asked for the "Z-Man"! Just kidding.:D

I didn't have Goodyears on mine when I got it. From what I've read on here they aren't a real good match for the ST. I have Hercules Terra Trac's on mine and they are pretty nice. Ran about $100 a tire for 245/75r16's. Just go with what you can afford. You don't have to go with what came on it. Mine came with Michelin AT's on it. Nice tire but after awhile, it got kind-of interesting driving in the winter.;)

lol, He was talking to Todd Z. I have to read the Titles better. Todd answer the question. hahahaha _Ron

LOL stone...

Jim,

From a performance perspective, the good years are not a good tire...

With that said, did any one measure the tread depth in 32nds for you ???

if the tires are not dry rotted, or causing vibrations they can stay on until they have 2 (two) 32nds left on them or the tire is worn to the tread indicator in the tread of the tire.

Get that number for me and I can tell you how much longer you truly have on them...

Jim,

I will answer your question, though you asked Todd for his input. ;)

The Wrangler RT/S are not a good tire, in my opinion. They do not have the traction other tires get, though they wear like iron.

I am not surprised that your tires have lasted that long. My Wrangler RT/S tires still had plenty of tread on them, but I was never satisfied with the ride or performance of those tires.

That is why I got rid of them when I did. I had close to 50,000 miles on those tires. I honestly think I had another 15,000 to 20,000 miles on them.

The ride and traction on the BFG tires I went with are like night and day. I liked those tires so much I put them on my wifes 2000 Explorer. We had a snow storm and those tires performed flawlessly.

As for replacing the OE tires with the exact same tire is up to you. Have you been happy with that tire? For me, I wouldn't take Wrangle RT/S tires if they were free.

For me, they are a waste of a tire.

Just thought I'd chime in, I have cooper ST's on my track and have been very happy with them. Very capable in sand this summer on the beach and snow and ice this winter. They chewed through the ice during this past storm we just got.

just a little fender well rubbing when I turn the wheels to full tilt though. Nothing major.

Just another vote for DITCHING the Goodyear Wrangler RT/S, they have awful wet traction, you will be pleasantly surprised when you get a better tire.
