I have a 2003 4x4 with a terrible automatic tow rating. Has anyone changed a 4x4 automatic transmission to a manual transmission? Was it painful or easy? Total cost?

Manual doesn't change the tow rating, its all about, the power, weight, gearing, and the brakes....
03 did come with the option of a manual, but the computer and other things need to be changed.

On Rangers the tow rating with a manual was less. Having formerly owned a manual trans Ranger, I can tell you that first gear in a stick Ranger ain't all that low to get a load rolling.

I am also interested in changing to a manual transmission. The 2003 Ford sport Trac was rated at 2500 towing capacity with a manual only 1500 with a automatic. If anybody has information on details, please comment.
