Well, yesterday I finally got rid of the POS OEM Wrangler RT/S tires. After 35,000 miles, they were badly cupped and needed to go. I got a great deal on a set of Goodyear Fortera Silent Armors at the Navy Exchange Autoport in Norfolk. Tires, four-wheel alignment, and vehicle inspection all for under $700.

These Fortera Silent Armors are incredible. The improvement in ride quality over OEM is night and day. Very smooth ride, and much more quiet on the road than the Wranger RT/S. Handling is improved. I have a 4X2 and do mostly highway driving, so that's why I went with these tires. All the research I did showed that they were the best highway SUV tire on the market right now. I highly recommend them!

Here's my Trac with the new tires, and I also recently installed billet tie-down replacements from Erik Larson.

looks good, I am still a fan of the white lettering out though...

I replaced the shocks and installed the EE sway bar at 17,000 miles.

Thanks, Todd. I decided to put the white letters on the inside because I don't like how they look after they start to wear. On every truck I've had with OWL, the lettering starts to deteriorate after about 10-15K miles. Plus, I think the blackwalls change the whole look of the truck. They make the chrome rims stand out more.

I am going to put the Silent Armor's under consideration for when I need to get our ST new shoes. A couple of weeks ago I drove a ST with them on, and even with the Edelbrock IAS shocks (that have been on a couple of yrs.) the Silent Armors were extremely comfortable. The ST I drove belongs to "Trac'nNelson" on the site.

Yeah the kevlar is made to absorb road shock and noise. they are a pretty wide tire too...worked well off-raod although what I went through wasnt anything special, just a few inches of mud and wet dirt road.

50k

and when you buy the silent armor, Goodyear gives you a "special" package with it which includes: 30 day trial period and an off road assistance program which is for 2 yrs after you buy the tires. They will come anytime of the day or night and change a flat tire.

TTrac, I will keep those tires in mind for next time, as I just bought a set of Pathfinders for my ST back in October. What shocks are REALLY GOOD for my ST? I may not be able real to afford expensive ones, so give me a reference for a set of four. I am in Texas so hopefully they are down here somewhere, and thanks in advance!

if you catch the right deal you can get monro reflex's (pretty much the best ones you can get for the ST) all for for 150-200 dollars.

Mrmarvyn, how do you like your pathfinders? I had Dominators (made by Cooper for tires.com -- discount tire) that were very difficult to balance so discount tire replaced them with the pathfinder suv's. My initial impression is that they ride very hard, but they seem to have good traction in wet weather.

I do a lot of around town driving (actually DW does) with a 1200 mile trip once a quarter. I just ordered some Dyna Beads from innovativebalancing to see if they will smooth out some of the vibration. Beginning to wonder if it is not my wheels causing the vibration, rather than the tires since I still have a little even with the new tires.

Marvin,

I went with the stock size, 25570R16. I though about going with a lower sidewall, because 25565R16 was available as well, but in the end I just kept it stock. Before the 30 trial period is up, I may go back for the 65-series tires.

Frank,

Actually, accoring to Goodyear's website, they're rated as a 70,000 mile tire.

ahhhh yes you are correct. I got the Goodyear Wrangler Silent armors......rated for 50k

They are a bit more meatier then the Fortera

Nice, TrainTrac. I got my eyes set on those as well, but at 25K the stock Wranglers are holding their wear! This fact is a pleasant surprise what with all the complaints I read about them.
