To begin, you must first measure up 7.5" from the bed and 1.75" over.
This is where the bottom hole of the bracket will be drilled. You simply
drill that hole with a 9/64 bit and then put the bottom screw in the
bracket. You then simply
make sure the bracket is straight up and down and drill the remaining 2
holes and
insert the screws. (You do the same on the other side)
The drilling is the easy part. The rest is kinda hard and I suggest you have
somone help you.
You insert the tubes of the middle section into the 2 curved sections and
adjust it to the width
of the ST bed. You then insert the cage into the brackets. There are 2
center plastic uprights
(one on each side of the surved sections) where plastic wedges are inserted
and screwed in to hold
the center section in place. This is where you will need the other persons
help. Once you do this,
the project is done.
The cage does come with buckles that can be hooked to the tailgate latch so
the cage doesn't
bounce when going down the road, but this is optional.
The cage fits nice and snug into the bed of the ST. If you have a soft
tonneau like me, you will
need to remove the back section and one of the center supports to open or
close the cage.
You don't want to know how long this project took me. I am easily
frustrated. I had TONS of drill
bits, but the one I needed was broken so I had to go to town and buy one.
That took about 30 minutes.
Then trying to get the cage together by myself took another 30 minutes. By
the time I asked for help, and the
project was actually finished, I had almost 1.5 hours into it. If I had
everything I needed right from the start,
the whole thing maybe would have taken 30-45 minutes.
