Yeah....I have an insane clog. I pulled a few massive clumps of hair out of my shower drain. It was still impossibly slow so I used our tube plunger and guess what...now it's worse.

I did all I could with the plunger and a wire/snake before resorting to the Liquid Plumber Foaming Pipe Snake product that has worked so well for me in the past.

It failed me! It's still insanely clogged after sitting all night long!

Is there a better product out there?

There is a product that is close to the name Red Barron. It is not that name, but I think it has the name of Baron in it. It works very well.

If it is a natural product, this stuff will eat it up.

You can try and plead your case to the guys at a plumbing supply house. The have a product that is only sold to licensed plumbers. Flash some cash and it might help. You could also rent a small snake that hooks up to a drill and clean more of the clog out.

Personally, I don't think any of the commercial drain cleaner products actually work anywhere near their hyped expectations. They may clear a very minor clog that makes a sink dain a bit slowly, but they will not do much for a heavily clogged drain. Many of the commercial drain cleaners are very caustic and not good for your pipes...especially in older homes.

A simple $20 snake will last a lifetime and do more to get your drain uncloged than any liquid or powder you pour down your drain.

Drain King. (G.T. Water Products) Under $20 at Amazon, or any hardware store.

A simple device that connects to a garden hose that uses water pressure to clear minor clogs.

Haven't bought a chemical drain cleaner in over 30 years.

For real stubborn clogs, Richard L is correct. A snake will probably be necessary.

I use it for preventative measure, and flush my drains twice a year.

Several different sizes available. For shower drains, the grate or overflow must be removed.

P.S.- This thing works! Make sure another person is holding the hose end when you turn on the water.

I have one of these and it works very well. It has saved calling a plumber or renting a power auger 3 or 4 times now. The 30' line is long enough for most drains, it is compact for easy storage, and has power out and power retreive.

Link is for Amazon, but I got mine on sale at ToolUp for $119.00. (Their site says sold out now)

A friend of mine had all his drains back up. Turned out his septic tank was full. Hadn't pumped it in 30 years. (duh) He got lucky, had it pumped for $400.00 and no damage to his drain field.

Wow... I guess I better quit complaining then... I pay $195 to $225 to have mine pumped. (1000 gallon septic tank) The cheaper guy isnt always available so I use the other guy.

Snake it and then use a heavyduty chemical cleaner. Be sure to use 3-4 times the amount that is recommended. When drains get clogged, I do not pussyfoot around. I nuke 'em hard. Last month I used a gallon of Liquid Plumber Max on the bathtub drain. It runs like new now.

I get some heavy duty drain cleaner at Wal-Mart. It is in the plumbing dept, not with the regular stuff in the grocery aisle. I forget the name but it's in a bottle with a plastic bag around the outside. Killer stuff.

All the pro type stuff that really works contains sodium hydroxide, disolves organic material such as hair.

get a can of lye, end of problem.
