After going through a bunch of old posts and checking out the member directory, is it safe to say that 265/70R16 is the largest tire size one can run without any rubbing whatsoever? And, bumping it to 265/75R16 will have a little rubbing?

One last thing -- if anyone wants a free set of used Goodyears for burnouts, let me know. I'm in Philadelphia, and will have the new tires on within a month or so.

Glad I could help. :)

I noticed no difference in rubbing between the two tire sizes. I think it has more to do with the width than the height difference. What type of tire are you getting? I don't know about where you are buying, but the 75s were cheaper than the 70s when I bought my last set of Revos.

It depends. I have had good experiences with Kelly Safari AWRs. But, I want to finally slap a set of BFG A-T KOs on the truck. And, I have heard good things about Revos. I have a goal of new tires by the middle of February, so that I make a decision and stick with it. I've spent too much time now "looking"!

I also have 265/75's and they rubbed a little on the rear wheel well. If you look, you can see the mark the tire leaves. Simply dremmel less than an inch of the leading edge of the plastic well. Didn't even have to remove the tire! One weird thing though, it never rubbed w/ a load in place.

i ran 265/75/16 on mine, with the rubbing as stated above... see lib for pics. .....I am back to 245/75/16 kelly's now. the big tire really fills in the wheelwells...

I have 265/75-16's, they fit fine before the TT & shackles but the rears rub on the inner fender a little. I never notice it or hear anything though.

What locations did yours rub without the TT/SL? I am trying to decide what size to go with as well whether to do a lift or not. I'm not trying to steal your thread Adam, just trying to help with my question also. Thanks!

The same. But like I said, it's not bad and I never notice. Without any sort of lift, I'd run a 265/70-16 which is about the same size as a 31x10.50-15. I had 265/70's on the Ranger I had before and they were fine.

As I am not going to do the TT/Shackles [yet], and so as to avoid any rubbing, I'll likely go with the 265/70-16s. The Trac just transferred from factory to ESP warranty, and I don't want to give Ford any reason to pick and choose what they want to fix. It's been a fairly solid vehicle, ignoring some small things that the dealer promptly fixed. When it runs off warranty, though, look out. :) I intend to keep it as a trail vehicle and supplement it with something new. I miss my old Explorer and the fun of off-roading...

One last thing, though. Re:

Where did you have to dremel it out exactly? I am curious what this would entail. If it is not much, I'd like to go bigger.

I'LL TRY TO GET SOME PIC'S BECAUSE THEY SPEAK A THOUSAND WORDS. IT WAS VERY SIMPLE, MINOR FIX, IT BARELY RUBBED AND I HAVE SOME REALLY DEEP TREAD. DON'T LET THAT STOP YOU FROM GETTING THE 265/75'S.
