Some stupid teenage girl came into work complaining about Sync not letting her use her cellphone while driving. Previously she crashed her one car, bought a a new fusion and hit someone on a motorcycle because she was on her phone, and now she wanted Sync to be removed. All I can say is Sync - Good for safety, but not for dumb teenagers

I have a similar device (different brand) in my Toyota and it does work very well...actually too well in some circumstances...

The Bluetooth device typically works up to about 40 feet from the cell phone which can cause problems because incomming calls will only ring in the vehicle if you are too close to the vehicle. In my case I was missing calls at work because my vehicle was parked outside the back door of my office building and my office in the building was on the other side of the wall where my Toyota was parked.

The Bluetooth device would automatically shut off if it lost the link with the cell phone, but only if I got at least 40 feet away. So if never got out of range of the Bluetooth device it remaind connected with my Blackberry and incomming calls would ring in my vehicle and not my phone and I would miss those calls.

These devices come with a build in battery and a 12Volt power cord. You can shut them off, when you leave the vehicle, but it is too easy to forget to turn if off. I think there needs to be a way to reduce the range of the bluetooth device or hardwire it to the ignition.

My Mercedes has a similar Bluetooth, handsfree telephone device built in and it shuts off with the ingition and that works perfectly.

imo, bluetooth sux

Bluetooth is a saving grace. At my job, I can only get reception for calls if I put my phone on the window sill of the office.

Naturally, I can't easily stick my head into the window to make calls, but with bluetooth, I can park my phone there, and make calls perfectly within a 40 foot radius.

Also, bluetooth lets me use my phone while it is on the charger, without having to be tethered to the phone & outlet.

With the advent of working voice recognition (which even my ancient phone has) bluetooth is great. The bluetooth headset even will tell me the number of the incoming call.

Only reason I need to even use the phone itself is to text.

On topic, I'm ambivalent about the hands-free bluetooth in the car, as my experiences with being on the receiving end of a call from one of those is the same as with someone using speakerphone in a car, which is nigh unusable.

i think Bluetooth technology is great and very usefull, but some Bluetooth devices are worthless or only apply to a small nitch group of people.

A few years ago, I worked at an insurance company where a lot of people there wore the Bluetooth earpieces. They were always walking around talking on the phone and you never knew if they were talking to you, themselves, or someone on the phone??? I just think that is rude.

LOL

Rich that annoys me like crazy, i hate being at work and a customer comes around asking question and then I ask them to repeat themselves and they point to their ear...
