Have a 2003 ST with no brake lights...third brake light works, signal and park lights work...fuse and bulbs look good...any ideas on what could be the problem?

hold ur brake petal down and have a friend looking at the brakes tilt the sterring wheel up or down and see if they come one. there is a project on fixing the wire harness

chris is probably correct about the wiring harness in the steering column. Even if tilting the wheel does not get your brake lights back on, it may have pulled or broke a wire loose and now the tilting wheel will not restore the connection.

The problem is that the early model Sport Trac's had the wiring harness in the steering column installed without sufficient slack to allow the wheel to tilt without pulling on the harness connector. Sometimes wires get pulled out of the connector and cause a loose connection and sometimes they break and you have no connection.

It sounds odd that the brake light wires go through the steering column, but they do because the Sport Trac uses the same bulb for the brake and turn signal and emergency flashers so it needs to go throught the turn signal switch and then through a lighting logic circuit.

That worked..funny how things can be so simple after you have a mental breakdown trying to find the problem...thanks for the help
