I am being told by my Ford dealership that my newly added Raybestos Quiet Stops are too hard for the factory Ford rotors. They are saying that the brake pads are causing the rotors to over heat, glazing them and creating my annoying squeaking noise. So...I bought the pads from another shop and had them installed at Ford. What do I do? This doesn't make sense to me that Ford would create a rotor that was "too soft" for a brake pad that is relatively soft in comparison. Help!!!

Ford is just tryin to get some more money out of you, and they're angry cuz you idnt buy the pads from them...If you buy the pads and rotors from them, almost miraculously, you won't have a problem. lol Dont give in!

Thanks

Andy

I put Raybestos Quiet Stop pads on my 2001 Sport Trac and never heard a peep or squeak out of them.

Another myth is that hard pads will glaze the rotors. It's just not true!

I'm about ready to take my business elsewhere. I've spent the money on new rotors and new brakes (granted, not from Ford) and had them cut my rotors several times trying to fix this problem. It may be ultimatum time.

Rich - how can I provide proof of this myth. I just have a need and desire to say..."Ha! I told you so. I told you this doesn't make sense."

Just told them I didn't believe them. They said everything has been tightened and tweaked to the proper specifications and that there is no vibration. According to the article that Fer provided (thanks...by the way) squealing is caused by the vibration between the pad & rotor. They are claiming there is not vibration. I told them if they've done all the could, I'm taking it elsewhere to have it looked at. Wonder if I would have any recourse if I find out they missed something. Who knows. I just want the squealing to stop. Good news is that I now have a new steering wheel. Thanks to the TSB for the leather peeling steering wheel.
