This past weekend I towed a popup camper for the second time with my '07 Trac, 2WD V6. The popup only ways about 1500 pounds and I would say with gear in popup and bed that total weight was in the 2000 pound range. It pulled great from Greenville, SC to Myrtle Beach, which is about 230 miles. Then it did a really funny thing once I got to Mrythle Beach and got into some stop and go traffic. I was only going about 5-10 miles an hour and the car in front of me stopped suddenly, and I tried to slowly stop. However, as I pushed in on the break, slowly pushing to the point that I was just holding it down, there was a hard to explain jerking or almost popping sound coming from the brake pedal???? I have never experienced this before with any other vehicles? Is this normal? It never did it again. Should this be something to check into?

thanks

Sounds as if the ABS was kiking in. If you were close to the beach, was there sand on the road??

Another vote that it was the ABS kicking in...it probably sensed you skidding, and when that happens the the pedal starts to feel like it is vibrating under your foot, and at the same time can feel like it is going limp. If that is what you felt, that's probably what happened, and you probably hit something slick.

"Sounds like the ABS kicked in, did it push back on your foot and almost sound like grinding?"

Exactly what it felt like? My previous '94 Ranger didn't have ABS and I guess I just never been in a situation where the ABS kicked in on the wife's minivan or cherokee before that! But, that is exactly what I experienced! So, it is normal. Thanks for the quick responses.
