05 4x4, I noticed the other day no emergancy brake.

A day or two later I could here a noticable squeel from the rear end, it was intermintent could here it slow or fast at times, also when I was standing beside the truck it sounded like rocks in the hub caps ( I have alloy rims ).

So I pulled off the rear wheels and calipers but could not get rotors off to check inside. On passenger side, emergancy brake cable still compressed, so I pushed it back and tried the brake again, stuck again, pushed it back, tried to get rotors off again, no luck, put calipers back on, no noise so far. Rear pads and rotors looked ok for 90,000 km but I will be changing them soon.

what is the best way to get rotors off the rear axle, I did remove the retaining clip and did some tapping , then carefully pounding on the rotor with a hammer, and penetrating oil to try to release it, no luck. I was pressed for time so i packed it in before I damaged anything or got too frustrated.

Sorry for long post, any help is appreciated.

On the backing plate behind the rotor you should see a small rubber gromet, if not then there will be an opening. Inside this opening is the adjuster gear for the parking brake shoes, stick a flathead screwdriver in there and adjust it 'til it's lose enough to remove the rotor. Hopefully this helps you out. If you have any trouble or questions just ask. That's why we're here.:supercool::banana:

Thanks for the info.

So it is like the old drum brake set up for the E brake.

My wifes Grand Prix is sort of the same, but no problem getting the rotors off.

i'll try again and let you know how I make out.

Had to have mine knocked off with a sledge. Worked well, but trust me, changing the parking brake shoes on the set-up we have is a PITA. Looked to me like you have to remove the axle to get the springs back in, or there is some special tool to do it. I just took them off and left them off. I never use them anyway.

Stonemiser, I left mine on and just backed them all the way back so they wouldn't rub on the new rotors. I Hate working on drum brakes, I'll have my buddy do them, he likes drums. I still have the new parking brake shoes in the box. :bwahaha::supercool::banghead::haveabeer:

Jerry, both sets fell off when I broke the rotors free to replace the rotors. (they were hanging up and rubbing, not sure how since I never used them) I tried putting one side back on and said the hell with it. They are now in a box under my work bench.:smack:

The brake pad on the sparking shoes actually came off completely from the shoe itself on mine. I took the pad off, left the shoes on and backed them off. Did I say I Hate drum brakes.:bwahaha:
