A more sturdy mounting plate between the frame or a strong steel bumper. I'd just hate to spend that on a brush guard and have it ripped off the truck. Maybe they are strong enough, but I'm not sure.

It mounts with four bolts to the frame. The same attachments as the towing hooks. You could build stronger but that should be fine for any kind of normal use.

What is normal use when it comes to winching? I just saw a guy bend a winch in half on a steel bumper. That's scary. The bumper held fine but I'm afraid a brush guard would have been destroyed in a situation like that. I know that bumper was well made.

If you're going for looks than this is for you. If you want to use the winch I agree with Hugh. I know first hand how weak the stamp welds are on the tow hook brackets. I would look in the projects section at the hidden winch project (if you have a body lift or are planning on doing one. JMO.

Custom only. Those are one of my projects for this spring/summer.

Normal winch use to me is winching yourself out of a mud hole using a tree or winching your buddy out of a mud hole with a direct connection. A brush guard mounted winch 'should' handle this very easily. A more durable heavy duty mount would be needed if your using your winch to try and move/drag heavy objects, heavy farm or construction use. Most winches any of us would purchase for off roading the winch will fail before the brush guard mount will fail.
