I need to change out my front OEM brake pads, so I'm considering Performance Friction. I recall message in this forum where someone used 2004 OEM front brake pads on a 2003 ST. Can I purchase 2004 Performance Friction front pads for a 2003?

In addition, I was told my service manager that I should replace or resurface my rotors when changing brake pads - any truth to this?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you should resurface the rotors, though if the rotors are in good shape, the machine shop will not have to remove much more then .010".

FWIW, the 2004 Performance Friction pads are the same as the 2001 Performance Friction pads.

Ford changed the design of the brake pads in the 2004 MY. It does not affect brake pads were made right in the first place.

the stock rotors are not made to be resurfaced. they will not fall into spec after a resurfacing.....OR they will come dangerously close to being in and then I didnt want to take the rish of it failing over time.........I just got new ones.

I had my rotors turned after 50,000 miles. They are still within specs by a long shot.

Always turn the rotors to clean them up. Usually you don't need to take off more than 0.010" if you haven't scored them or glazed them real bad.

Don't forget to bed the pads and break them in properly for long life and good performance. Also, always torque the lugs in 2-3 steps to prevent warping the rotors.
