i was looking at my system today and i noticed that my capacitor doesn't light up with the amount of volts thats going through it...and ideas why? and my lights do dim when its up real loud so idk if its working or not...

thanks

What size Cap and how many watts is the amp? Only reason I ask, I've heard: 1,000 watts = 1 farad. I'd almost say, if it doesn't light up, then the Cap isn't at like full charge or the juice is just passing through the Cap from the battery, almost like a distribution block. I'm new to the whole Cap deal as well. I just ordered a Stinger 5 farad Cap.

The circuit could be bad for the volt meter....

Easiest way is disconnect the NEG cable on your trucks battery and open the door.... IF the interior light is lit the cap is storing a charge....

Wouldn't you want to disconnect the positive terminal? If you disconnect the negative, the circuit would be open. If you disconnect the positive, the capacitor would feed power back through the vehicle. (Assuming the power lead to the amp is still connected to the vehicle)
