...and guess what, they didn't have the part. Despite the fact that I scheduled this weeks ago, I pulled up and the service manager said, "They told you on the phone that we don't have the part, right?" No, they did not.

Then, he proceeded to sloppily wrap electrical tape around the connector, drop it back onto the engine and tell me that they'd call again when they had the part- probably some time in NOVEMBER.

It's not like they didn't see this recall coming. How can they be this far behind on parts?

what a goof....

The best thing is to drive to another dealer if possible and have a service manager check. Some idiots on the phone tell you what you want to hear and then hang up.

Ufortunately, there's no other dealer here in Tallahassee. Two locations, but they're owned by the same people.

I'll call over to the other location and see if they've got the part there. From past experiences, I'm pretty sure they never talk to one another.

There are also dealerships in nearby cities (Havana, FL & Thomasville, GA) I can check with, but I can't make it up there during the week.

Piro-most dealers are open on Saturdays for service work.

You would think Ford Corp would just send them a bunch of these parts. What they don't use they send back to them. I guess that would be too smart of a "Bold Move" on Ford's part.

The 2 dealers in my area (Bakersfield, CA) have told me it will be DECEMBER before they have the part!

I stopped by my local dealer on a Sat morning while running errands to make the appointment. They walked to parts, got the harness and put it in in under 5 minutes.

Here are photos of what they installed.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one told END OF OCTOBER!

Boy did Ford screw the pooch on this one. It's not like this recall was the first time this switch was known to have been bad. They also knew it was like, what 600,000+ vehicles?

Sheesh. You think their planner/buyers would have been a bit better on the ball...

"Hey I got an idea! Let's announce a new recall, but not supply the dealers with the parts.... who knows it may generate a new sale or two...."

fkent, I'm a little confused. It looks like you've still got the red switch in there. If they replace the harness, does that then make the switch a non-issue?

The harness has a fuse that blows if your switch goes south. Then YOU can buy the switch THEY should be replacing. Fuse link is cheaper than a switch.

Piro,

All the fused wiring harness does, is keep your truck from catching fire when the red switch fails. The red switch is still a poor design, which is why I replaced the switch even before they announced the recall. I now have the new wiring harness, too.

EricP (or others),

Is is still possible to just order the part as shown in the project write-up (which I believe includes the new switch and wiring harness), or has Ford scooped them all up?

I'd rather spend a few bucks and do it right myself than wait two months to let these goons do it wrong for free.

The only way to find out, would be to call your local Ford Parts center. As you can see from this thread, different Ford dealers have different parts inventories. The new switch comes with a wiring harness adapter which allows you to plug the new switch into the existing harness. The recall is adding a fused harness, which is a different part from the adapter.

Here's a picture of the new switch, packaged with the adapter and a zip tie. You can see the part number on the package.
