I've had a Recon LED 3rd brake light for several years. Today, I saw one on a Ford Ranger and was surprised how utterly worthless the brake light portion is. I could hardly see the LEDs. So, I started thinking. What if I get an OEM light and equip it with the new high-output LED bulbs?

So, I found a new 3rd brake light/cargo light on Ebay. A vehicle converter had several new ones for $14 each. I bought one.

Then I went to my LED guy on Ebay. He sells high-output LED lamps. I found a pair of red LED lamps for $7 a pair and the same in white for the cargo lamps.

Nice mod!

Let's see it installed and in action. How about day and night pics with the red and white lamps lit separately?

I changed my cargo light out shortly after I bought my ST last summer. The output is a cleaner, white cast of light. In fact, I changed my license plate, puddle bulbs, and fog lights to white LED lights. It gives the ST a more "luxurious" look. Highly recommended.

I added individul strips. Got to thinking that, pickups will most likely see my brake lights. But low to the ground sedans might not pay attention. Wired them into the trailer connection.

Well... The LED bulb in my center brake light died. Dunno why. Good thing I had a spare. Those things are supposed to last forever.
