My check engine light came on the other day, so like any self respecting Sport Trac owner, I searched the posts at this excellent site and decided to fix it myself. Well, after replacing the DPFE Sensor AND the EGR Valve, the light is still on.

First Question - Does the "computer" need to be reset now that I've changed those 2 parts or does it reset automatically?

Second Question - If it resets automatically, what should I check next?

Any help would be appreciated!

You will need to reset it. The best way I know is to unplug the negative terminal on your battery for about 15 to 30 minutes and then hook it back up.

DO the reset, IF not have it scanned, ALSO check the common vacuum elbow as well...

BUT do NOT change parts just because the light comes on...

If it does come back on, get it read and post the code, it can be pretty expensive when you just start guessing.

Although, the components you changed are very common issues, so you did no harm even if you got it wrong.
