check engine light

hey my check engine light came on while driving yest. hopefully nothing major. question ,is it safe to drive the vehicle until i can find time to take it to dealer ?

Get to an Advance Auto or like store...they will read your code for Free!! Check back here once you get codes...lots of experience on this site with codes...don't do what the store workers tell you....ask here first!!...

Check engine light on constant is usually an indication of an emissions system problem, not a serious engine perblem. The owners manual tells you this. If it is blinking then you have a serious, shut it off now, type of problem. As trtex says, get the code read and report back here for the likely fix. Take it to a shop and you run the risk of them playing "replace parts til it goes away" or " we'll take this fool's money til he winces".
