I think that "Intel Core 2" is the technology and standard that provides multiple cores in a single processor package.

"Intel Core 2 Duo" is then a dual core processor using that technology. You can also get Quad (4) cores; e.g. "Intel Core 2 Quad".

As for "Intel Dual-Core", that's based on an older technology that introduced dual core in a processor (e.g. the "Intel Dual-Core Desktop Processor E2140")

Which is better..."Intel Core 2 Duo" vs "Intel Dual-Core"...that all depends on your needs of price vs performance. If looking at two different computers that have one vs the other, then consider cost, and look online for benchmarks for both processors found within the two PCs you are looking at.

I *think* the above is accurate.

from intel's web site...

Intel Core 2 Duo processors powering your desktop and laptop PCs you'll get the latest arsenal of performance-rich technologies, including up to 4MB of shared L2 cache, up to 1333 MHz front side bus for desktop, and up to 800 MHz front side bus for laptop

the dual core processors only have 1 mb l2 cache and run at 800 mhz bus speed for both laptop and desk top computers..

the core duo chips are the latest and greatest and more expensive chip... faster too..

I have a Core Duo in my laptop. While it is nice, you get a better boost in performance by maxing out the RAM. If you are on a tight budget and have to choose between a faster processor or more RAM, I'd go for the RAM, unless you definitely plan to boost the RAM at a later date.
