Cracked tailgate hub

Has anyone had the hub on there tail gate crack?
Sorry I’m sure it’s called something else

The main reason I ask if anyone has seen them crack is because I was rear ended and insurance is trying to tell me it was cracked and not from the accident.

Are you sure that is not the split in the pivot shell. One of them will have a split as so the tail gate can be lifted off.

I agree with EddieS. Where is there a crack here? I see the slot that allows for removal of the tailgate.

Id be more worried about that rust rotting something away.

It is the split. Figured that out. Thanks
I was rear ended and now the tail gate is shifted. It is pretty much wedged in on the drivers side. Still opens but there is a quarter inch gap on the passenger side. Insurance is saying that’s not from the accident

Agree. Love the truck just not sure if it’s worth putting a lot of money into it now

Some elbow grease (sanding with a wire brush) and some black Rustoleum will help with that rust issue.
