Im curious why? I have the truck in for repairs but why would they need it? Any thoughts?
Dealer asked me for the last 4 digits of my social security number.... why?

Maybe to confirm the warranty, But I would NEVER give that out....

Thats a good question. When he told me the cost of the repairs over the phone he asked what are the last for digits. I bet they did lock the keys, but don't they have a code reader they can use to access on the outside?
A) they use the VIN to determine warranty
B) code reader only works in the truck, so if they locked the keys in it they would not be able to read the code.
I think they use it as a "filing" system. My dealer uses my phone number to ID me. I wouldn't have given it to them.

possibly as an additional security measure when you pick the ST up, but that's new one on me as well

I know I'm really second guess it. I never thought to ask since it wasn't the full number but I'll definitely ask in the morning.

I know some cars were stolen from this dealership so its possible a security measure. Unless they use the number to mark keys. But porters and mechanics would get the number so scratch that thought..>..

I would ask them why they wanted it and probably you will find it is no big deal but probably also that they did not NEED it.
Also you said "since it wasn't the full number". The last four numbers are the most important and are random unlike the first five which are based on geographic location. Once someone has the last four they can most likely figure out the rest with a bit of research. If someone knows your place of birth and age they can figure out what the first 5 numbers are of your SS#. Though I doubt the dealer is up to no good in most cases just the last four numbers of your SS# is all a good thief would need they can figure out the rest.

They don't have my DOB and the address the truck is in is actually an very old address where my brother lives at. I totally forgot to ask. I had 2 cell phones on my ears one with the insurance agent and the other was a dealer service person. I'll ask in the morning and post the results.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Security and diligence are important to protect your identity, but someone does not need to get it from your dealership. ALL information is easily accessible on the internet and through public documents.
If you are serious about identify theft then contact the SS administration and the credit managers (Experian, Equifax and Tranunion) and add account passwords. You can also get a membership to any of a dozen security monitors like lifelock.
