I'm detailing my Trac using a Porter Cable orbital buffer and Mother's 3-step Ultimate Waxing System. I did some panels on the Trac with the phase one of Mother's product, which is a mild polish, but I can still see some spider-webbing/fine scratches. I'm also using the Orange colored Lake Country pads. I have the PC set to speed #5.

For those of you who have detailed your Tracs with the above products, what technique(s) did you use to get those fine scratches out? I mean, I got some out, but if I'm gonna go through the pains I'm already going through detailing her, I might as well get it right this time.

Thanks!

Flipper:

I used Sonus polishes. However, the key to removing swirls is three things--speed, pressure and break-down time. With Sonus 2, I'd apply it at 1, then relatively quickly move up to 4.5-5. When at speed, I applied the amount of pressure that, if stopped, it would take for the pad to squish about 2/5 to 1/2 way down. I was a bit aggressive, but the PC is fairly forgiving and should not burn your paint. I did not stop until the powder fell off and the residue looked like haze. This is a little dryer than some (I used a water spray bottle + MFs to remove the haze), but it worked really, really well.

From my understanding, the LC orange pads are a bit too aggressive for a PC orbital. I've used an PC with the LC CSS white pads with very good results.

Thanks Adam, I'll see if adding pressure helps.

Curt, I started out with LC CSS white pads and it some webbing still remain. That's when I switched to the orange one.

Maybe I'll switch back to white and then add more pressure. Time to pick a test spot...
