So when my 2001 Gen 1 4x4 Limited with 185,000+ miles developed a timing chain(s) issue, I replaced it about 2 years ago with a 2010 Limited 4x4 V8 that had about 17,000 miles on it.

So last week I need to use the spare, and find a GY Fortura P245 65R17 instead of a similar Michelin P235 65R18 to the four I've been rolling with.

Owners manual actually talks about full size dissimilar spares. Did Ford actually equip that way or did the previous owner/dealer do a switcharoo?....I bought the 2001 new and know I had five of the same tire then (remember the Firestones exchanges?)

Not at all uncommon to have different wheel diameters. My '10 STA has 20" tires on the ground and an 18" spare from the factory, same for my Jeep Grand Cherokee. The overall diameter is what is important. There is about a half inch difference in the two tire sizes you quoted.
