Greetings! Any one of this newsgroup has Dodge Magnum or has driven one. My last seven cars were all Fords. I am quite happy with Ford. There has been rumors about Dodge quality. I would like to have a station wagon like Taurus wagon I used to have. It seems station wagons have vanished from market due to onslaught of SUVs. I have St and Expedition myself. I can find only two wagons in the market - Volvo V70 and Dodge Magnum. I shall buy a Taurus wagon any time if Ford makes one in 2009 model year. with thanks.
 
Same way with the Magnum...Enterprise will rent one for ~$50 for a 3 day weekend. They normally can't promise a specific car upon the day of rental but I had success with choice. Rented a Magnum for a canoe trip before I had my ST. Very nice but a station wagon just doesn't do it for me.
 
Kinda depends on your budget too. The base Magnum is nearly 10 grand cheaper than the base Volvo V70. We have been a Volvo family, so I could recommend them hands down over Dodge. However, I wouldn't trade the 2001 ST for anything on the market right now, including the new ST.
 
I don't have experience with either one...but I think the quality of Chrysler products has improved over the last several years. I have a friend who in the last 10 years has had an Intrepid, a Concorde, and now has a new 300. She has loved all of them and she drives about 35,000 miles a year with no problems.



I personally like the looks of the Magnum and the Charger...
 
A Volvo is a Ford and ST's contain Volvo parts. Read the current issue of CONSUMER REPORTS (April 2007). Page 16, you will read that FORD is rated the highest in test scores of the 3 US companies. Chrysler was dead last. Chrysler makes great looking vehicles, but their quality has never been good. Buy the Volvo! Check with your insurance company and compare rates on both vehicles. That will usually tell you about quality and safety.
 
I would recommend a Volvo. My wife drives an 04 S60 and we have been very pleased. The car gets great gas milage and performs well. The integrity of the vehicle is fantastic. My wife along with my 18 month old son were broadsided by a kid hopped up on drugs and both walked away from the accident. Extensive damage to the vehicle but it was rebuildable.

We've had Volvo before and they are very nice...



My wife was looking at a new VW Passat last summer and she really liked the Passat Wagon...



It drives really nice and has lots of features. You might want to check it out...

Ford renamed the Freestyle the Taurus-X and I'm sure they'll still be around in 09. Looks like a wagon to me. But if it's the lower silhouette that you desire from the Magnum and Volvo, then I'd pick the Magnum. Never drove a Magnum, but I sat in one at a car show and it was nice inside and out.
