Ok guys I've got a another one.

LEft the lights on and the baterry was dead. number pad lock will not work. Had to break in with a coat hanger in down town atlanta (no one paid attention by the way. was in in less than two minutes)

My key will not open my door lock I had another key hidden for just this situation but neither of my keys will open my driver door.

Is this a usual problem. I have never noticed it because I always use the key pad and lock my keysd in the consol.

Thanks

po-man

If you are the original owner, with original keys, they should work.

It sounds like your key locks may be sticking or someone changed the door locks??

You might want to try to clean & lube the locks with some WD40. I think they may be dirty and sticking from non-use. If you always use your remote or key pad, the door key lock never gets used.

That's a good reminder to check your door looks a couple of times a year just to keep them working.

Had a similar problem with my son's 2000 Mustang, bought used. Ignition key would not open the trunk or doors, so if the key fob dies you're up the creek. Had a body shop pull the trunk lock so a locksmith could make a key, which then refused to work in the door. Body shop removes door cylinder, which the locksmith said the key did fit but it was very corroded from lack of use. He cleaned it up and now it works fine.

Also I could be wrong but if you have a personalized code, if the battery goes dead or is removed then it defaults to the factory code. That happened on a Lincoln I used to have.

Caymen, nothing in po man's original post indicated he was surprised the keypad didn't work with a dead battery. I took him mentioning it as more "matter of fact". Surprse would have included a phrase like "WTF?" or "Wassup with that?", or even a ? at the end.

Let's not look for things to needle someone about. Especially given that you are the most helpful guy here.

You need to use the locks every now and them to keep them in working order. If not, they can easily get stuck, which is what your looking at now.

Get some lubricant into it and see what happens.

Big D, I have nothing against Caymen, just against people behaving badly. I read Caymen's comment with an implied "Well what do you expect, Dummy!", but I couldn't see where that was warranted. And if one is going to imply such in a post, it better be warranted. Maybe I read the comment wrong. If so, I am sorry Tom.
