So I'm thinking of running E85 on my ST.

I have an 05 4.0 4x4 with Volant and DynoMax UlaFlow muffler.

I have the Xcal2 93 performance tune from Bama chips.

So is there any reason to switch?

I know it's a higher Octane, like 107/109. So MPG would go down. But would they be as bad as with the stock tune?

I mean either way it costs to fuel our STs. But is there a performance reason. I know in the long run it's basicly the same cost over time.

Also really thinking about the SC, this summer.

Thanks

Higher octane doesn't mean lower fuel mileage. My wife's Subaru Outback gets BETTER gas mileage with premium than it does with regular because it is tuned to burn premium.

Gas milage will decline because alcohol has less thermal energy in it than gasoline.

I believe Jim tried it and needed a special tune from the tuner for E85, he tried it on the regular tune and ran into problems...

Larry, DON'T DO IT!!

It'll run fine for awhile & then it won't run at all. The numbers in the program are way off. I ened up having to replace all the O2 sensors & have the computer reflashed. Also new plugs. Mr. Torrie has E85 tunes. They are very good, but MPG does not go up any.

So don't run it with the 93 performance tune. With the stock tune it's ok.

If I get the E85 tune, I know the MPG doesn't get better, but does the ST perform better?

Thanks all for your info.I was going to try and switch over in a few days. I'll wait a bit.

You need to have the calibration rewritten to work properly with E85. I have successfully done this for ranger guys in the mid west.

Take care,

That's cool.

But again will the E85 tune gain me any more performance over 93?

Or over the stock tune and E85.

I mean for me if I'm not gaining performance and I'm losing MPG, why try E85.

Thanks

If its calibrated properly yes. You can run a lot more spark advance due to the octane of the fuel.
