Has anyone ever bought undeveloped land from eBay? I stumbled upon the possibility of doing this today, and I think some of the deals out there are remarkable...especially in the Southwest. I'm looking at a parcel being sold by a company that has 100% satisfaction on over 400 deals. I realize that some of the land is just sage brush and probably doesn't have any water, but to buy 71 acres at less than $250/acre seems too good to be true, especially when you consider the close location to some growing cities. There is no way I'd buy something that large, but there are some really good deals here, if they aren't scams.

nelson, i have also considerd doing the same in florida. but i am very hesitant as i just don't feel comfortable not knowing if all the paper-work is in order and if it's not, how "screwed" i would be. also can the land get the proper permits for any type of zoning ( commercial, residential ) or is just useless.

hopefully someone has experienced this type of transaction and they can give you hands on info, but i would stay clear.

good luck

You'll also want to make sure you have an environmental assessment done to make sure that there isn't anything lurking there due to former owners/activities. Once you buy it you are responsible for clean-up. (like a fuel tank that leaked for years or oil patch activity). Here in Canada the mortgage lender will often require ESA's before they will lend the capital. Not sure about down in the US.
