Engine Light

My check engine light came on today while I was driving into work. All the gages were OK (temp, oil pressure, etc). What should I do next? Auto Zone or one of those places will hook up an on board dectector and tell me what code comes up for free right? Thanks.

I had Autozone plug into my truck a few weeks ago to find out why the check engine light was on. It is a free service they provide. They will give you the code and a vague explanation of possible causes. Still gives you an idea as to where to start to solve the problem.
