engine noise

Have a 02 4*4 about 2 weeks the engine started to make a rumbling noise.It seems to rumble only at low rpm's or idle. I can't notice it while driving .Did some research and found out, it possible could be what people call timing chain chatter. I looked at the projects list to see if anyone has ever did this,but it's not on the list .Any info would help, or should I just take it to a shop.

A rumble noise isn't how I would describe the timing chain noise, it is more of a rattling noise. You could possibly have something that is belt driven going bad, try taking the serpentine belt off and starting the engine and see if the noise goes away.

i believe i have also experience this rumbling niose you speak about,

have heard it about three times, just right after i start the ST up.

it sounds like its coming from somewhere close to the firewall.
