Can anybody tell me if this symptom is called "slipping" or if it is something else.
The truck is a Job1 2001 4WD Sportrac with only 31k miles. The transmission has never had any service, including fluid changes. I should go check the fluid level, but since it's cold out I haven't done that yet. The problem began on a cold icy day when I used the 4WD for the first time in quite some time.
Beginning at standstill, as I accelerate, the transmission shifts up at 20-25 mph. During the upshift, the engine revs up momentarily. It's an additional 300-400 RPM, and this lasts about 1/3 second, before the RPM drops and the transmission is in the higher gear.
Is that what is called slipping, or is it called something else?
