Oops, accidently selected exhaust as subject, Anyway...

Well, I took my truck in for the estimate today and they said they couldn't do it unless they take it a part. Even though the damage looks minimal on the outside the and truck drives fine. The gaps at the lower front passenger door and hood suggests what he called unit body damage. Even though it is a full frame truck the structure forward of the fire wall is unit body? So, now I have to drop it off next week and leave it with them. He said it would of been better off hitting them dead on, not side swipe, even at low speed side swipes mess up todays vehicles. I'm nervous now....this can't be a total loss????

The only other place recommended by USAA has a 3 week wait just to even see them...

Will, post update next week in another thread.

ouch :(

sorry to see your damage.

i deal with accidents all the time in my fleet and a good body shop should take it apart to see if there is any hidden damage before giving an estimate.

my prediction 2k.

ooops, just noticed the bumper cover is shot as well, maybe another grand.

good luck

btw, noticed you have the chrome pkg, not many out there.

Your core support is push back and to the left making the way the fenders mount to the cowl way out of square. You might even have the cowl roll back a bit. Usually the windshield breaks when there is significant cowl damage.

The frame can take a lot but the body structures, especially the front end are very weak in frontal impacts. I am surprized that you can open the dirivers door without messing up the Left fender.

Very fixable and I'd take it in minute that like that.

The drivers side door gaps are perfect, no windshield cracks, and the cowl looks perfect. No visible sheet metal damage either. I was probably going 5mph forward, and the other car tried to cut across the highway in front from left to right. It did pull the front drivers side facia off and it was hanging down. I zip tied it up in the pics.

I thought it was strange that the gap got wider only on the bottom passenger door. Even looking down the body the fenders looks straight down both sides...

Plastachrome package? Yea, I don't see many either.

Just a few points to ponder. If the other guy got a ticket, you don't even need your insurance, and you can take it wherever you want. If there was no ticket, then it's another game. let me know if you need any advice. And I wouldn't really worry about the severity. Looks minor to me. If there is any damage beyond the radiator support, it will be minor. The frame could be tweaked a little, but if it is, it's an easy fix.

You do know that you can take your car to other body shops for free estimates even though USAA will only accept estimates from a few shops in your area. That way you can have ammunition should USAA try to get by cheap.

GEICO has a local estimater who failed to catch some damage, and had the wrong price in their system for a part. He said it should cost $750 and it actually cost twice that at $1400. But they verified the prices and everything was taken care of quickly and efficiently. I'm sure USAA will do the same. If there is other damage found they are abligated to pay if it was caused by this accident.
