Just bought a 03 sport trac 4x4 and have a few questions. What type lube should i use for the rear differential? any additives? The st just went over the 100k mark so i changed the trans filter, refilled with syn fluid, changed the transfer case fluid to synthetic also. Also, this vehicle did not have a manual so i have another question. How do you change the code on the keypad? I am removing the passenger air bag so i can get the original code on the keyless module, is there anything else i will need? Thanks

" Vehicles equipped with Traction-Lok axle require synthetic rear axle

lubricant. Rear axles containing synthetic lubricant are lubricated for life.

These lubricants are not to be checked or changed unless a leak is

suspected or service is required. The axle lubricant should be changed

any time the axle has been submerged in water.

Add 118 ml (4 oz.) of Additive Friction Modifier XL-3 or equivalent

meeting Ford specification EST-M2C118A for complete refill of

Traction-Lok axles."

How do i tell if it has the traction lok or not? Thanks. AND Thank You for the link to the owners manual. It will be of great help!!!

On the door you will find a sticker...

On my '05 I did not have to remove the airbag. All I had to do was gently pry up the defroster vent trim and I could see the programming code from outside the vehicle, shining a flashlight onto the control box with the number on it. Took me maybe 10 minutes to do this.

You could go to the dealer and have them run a search for the unlock code. If it hasn't been changed, it will open it. Then you can program in your own number. Look on e-bay for an owners or shop manual, they are pretty cheap (if you don't like the download version). As far as the fluids are concerned, some say to stick with the Ford synthetic lubricants, (I've had no problems) and use Mobil 1 in the engine. Good luck, Bob

Mike, I dont think you can change the code, however, you can add a personalized code.

I will pull the manual for my 01 and give you the details later.
