I've decided to build an enclosure that will consume the entire back wall behind the rear seats. It will go all the way up to the window trim.

In order to gain as much airspace as possible and ensure a quality fit, I've decided to build this enclosure out of MDF and Fiberglass much like RS and Clay had done. The back section will be all fiberglass and the front MDF.

I'm going to attemp this myself. I think I can do it without any major problems.

I've done a lot of research already and will continue to do so until spring when I move forward with this.

I have one question that I can't see an answer to. When I prep to fiberglass the mold should I lay the Second Skin Damplifier Pro (84mils thick) sound deadening on the rear wall first? It does change the wall thinkness and in turn would change the position and fitment of the fiberglass back when fitted to the rear wall again. I'm thinking I should install the deadener first, then tape off the section and start the fiberglass process.

What do you think?

I think you are correct.

Since fiberglass will mold into all the cracks and clevises if you don't put the sound deadener in first the box won't fit after you install the deadener.

You are right - it is exactly what you should do first. i laid down some deadener, then covered it with aluminum foil and masking tape....when you pop the mold, the deadener will stay and the foil comes right off....

had i not done this, i would have caused the whole backing to be off....there are so many neeoks and irregularities on the back wall...get it as you want it before laying glass!

Trust me, you can do this - it's not that tough. it take a little patience at first, but after the first layer is on it'll get easier.

Remember:

mix 2-3 oz at a time

have lots of chip brushes and nitrile gloves handy.

mask off any areas you don't want resin on!

pre-cut all your chop-mat of cloth into workable squares beforehand

use a respirator!!

keep us updated on the project!
