:eek:My son has a 2001 Dodge Ram Quad Cab. Last weekend he was traveling back to his

post (Coast Guard). When the tread seperated from the Firestone Wilderness tire

and thrashed the front drivers side fender. It caused $1600.00 worth of damage.

My question is, How can he find out if that tire was one that should have been

recalled? I believe it was 265-75-17s. He did purchase the truck used about 6 months

ago. The truck had 3 different brand tires when purchased and only one was the

Firestone Wilderness.

Any Help and or suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thank You

i talked to my old lady who works for tires plus corporate and she said the recall was not on a 17'' and not forthat particular vehicle. she said you may luck out and take it to an authorized dealer to have them inspect it to see if it is an issue with manufacturer defect. she said normally the tire will do that if curbed in its lifetime or if its low on air. she said that is a 5 year old tire and it could have been its day to go. wish i had more for you any more info email me or she also said your insurance company should cover it.

Sounds like that was the spare tire... There was a Dateline or something report on that issue last week. The tires were recalled, but some of the spares were not changed out. The report covered a guy who got a flat and three (3) days later, the spare, (which was brand new, never been used), came apart and caused his explorer to roll. He is now a quadrapelegic... very sad.

That is the reson why i will never own anything from that tire company, ever. be it firestone, or Bridgestones. firestone had issues in the mid 70's with there tires poking steel wires outthe side. My old man had a Maverick with them, luckily he didn't get hurt.. JMHO

Firestone only recalled the 16" Wilderness AT tires, and then it was only if they were made a one or two factories. (Alabama or Georgia factories I think).

Ford volunarily recalled all Firestone Wilderness AT tires and paid the owners for any replacement tires they purchased back to about 1996 through March 31, 2001.

So officially Firestone only recalled a limited number of Wilderness AT tires.

Some Chevy Suburbans and Blazers were equiped with Wilderness AT's but I don't think their was a mass recall by Firestone except for the 16" tires made at a selected few factories.

From this website http://www.tiredefects.com/firestone_tire_recall.htm

The recall only covers all North American Firestone tires called ATX or ATX II that are size P235/75R15. But that is the most popular tire size for sport/utility vehicles.

The recall also covers Wilderness AT tires of the same size, but only if they were made at the company's Decatur, Ill., plant.

Mookie,

Thanks, I was thinking the plant was in Decatur, GA but I guess it was in Illinois.

I thought it was the 16" Wilderness AT's that were the only tires recalled by Firestone.
