The day before yesterday, son goes out at 0530 to let my daughter in law out of the drive way, comes back in to tell me someone had backed into wifes Focus. No note, neighbors cars all ok. We live on a culdesac, minimal traffic in. Call the police, call the insurance. USAA says you have to pay the deductable, but take it in, get a rental and all will be good.

Later in the day, talking to the neighbor about it, ask if they had any company (knew they did) that left early in the morning. She calls the girl and finds out yes, they did hit my car and they have USAA also. "They didn't want to wake us up when they left" and didn't think to leave a note -- duh.

Anyhow, they are coming back today to give me thier info so I can call USAA back.... and get this claim off my policy and under theirs where it belongs. Rep from USAA tap danced a little saying I may still have to pay the deductable and then claim it under their policy since I already started on under my policy...... I laughed and said that if I had to do that, I was going for a lot more than my deductable----if they couldn't handle that in house. She back peddled a little and said she was sure they could work it out in house :)

Good news out of it all.... friend of a friend is the Asst Mgr at the Beach Ford Body Shop we took the car to.... he did the estimate and all and already has the car being worked. $972.86

Good news for the hit and run driver, 1k in damage makes it a class 5 felony in VA.

Sorry for the vent..... car only had 12 k miles and was immaculate.

Does that mean you called the police and are pressing charges, or are you just giving an FYI?

I ask, because I don't think I would press charges or contact the authorities in this case as described.

All day yesterday, I contemplated what to do..... at first, they were dragging their feet on calling our insurance company to report it, only giving me the name of the insured and no contact info other than an email. Once I told them I wanted a claim number by this morning or I would call the police back with their name let them get further invovled, suddenly things got rolling on their end. My only concern is my deductable being paid.

If they had left a note in the first place or awoken us, the police would have never been called and we could have settled this like grownups, but since they didn't, I had no choice but to file the report and IF the detective comes back to the house, I will provide whatever information he asks me. I will not call him first, but I am not going to lie to him either. If they get in trouble over this, sucks to be them. They should have stopped and left their info.

Cruz,

Sounds like you handled it right. If you had no idea who did it and contacted the police first I guess you have to follow through on that. I think what you say to the police from this point on might sway them as to whether or not they file hit and run charges.

cruz',

Like we said, they were adults, and they decided to try to "Skip Out" on doing the right

thing. Their "Bad", they can deal with it. Ease your conscience, get your car fixed, and

let them learn a lesson... No one was hurt, and maybe they got an education(?!?!)
