The local news broke into my Price is Right to tell me this. The best selling truck is having 2 of thier plants closed. THe one in Minnesota builds Rangers. I know the Norfolk plant employs about 2400 people. This won't happen until 2008, but still that is a lot of local people that will be out of work. The local union rep was saying on the news it was because it was costing too much to ship all the parts to be assembled to Norfolk. Must be a product of higher gas prices.

Norfolk has been in the crosshairs for well over 5 years. Aproximate shipping cost was $300/vehicle. Landlocked, and geography finally did it in. Ranger hasn't seen any major updates in at least 5 years. Its just plain stale. Ford said in Jan. Wayforward plan that its NA plants were 79% capacity compared to Toy at over 100%. Consolidation is just starting at Ford. At this point I am buying F stock, have been for years. Bad news for employees means great news for wall street!

Norfolk is a port city, certainly not landlocked. The bulk of the US Atlantic fleet is based in norfolk.
