that escape site says they come with a 200HP 3.0L V6 that is the biggest load of crap ever, tracs have 4.0L 6's and we dont even make 180 to the wheels but i guess when your driving an escape you should lie to yourself so hopefully you can forget your driving an escape

Chris,

Are you serious in what you are saying?

You mean Ford is lying?

All engines are measured at the flywheel, NOT the wheels. The Escape does both a 4 and 6 cylinder. The 6 Cylinder is rated at 200 HP.

You should do a little reading and learn how engines are rated and stuff like that.

It would greatly help you out.

Just because the engine is rated at 200 HP also doesn't mean that your getting all of that 200 out of it at 1,000 RPM.... it may not make that until 4000 RPM...

and the ST is rated at 205-210, you get that because the stock ST's on dynos got 177-185 at the rear wheels....

And the ST is a 5000 LB truck !!!!

HP ratings are mostly a marketing gimmic. Just about any engine can be rated at a higher HP if one just runs the RPM up a little higher [design issues affect this]. Higher HP at a high engine RPM only makes it possible for a vehicle to go faster. HP affects speed, torque affects acceleration and the two are related to some degree but not in a way that really counts for vehicle performance. For pulling power and acceleration, high torque at a moderate engine speed is desireable; that's how the engines in semi-tractors are designed. High HP at high RPM translates to speed. The Indy Cosworth engines were small, 4-cyclinder jobs that put out high HP at 10,000 RPM and the cars are fast; but, takes about a lap at Indy [2.5 miles] to get up to full speed because then engines are not designed for high torque in the mid-range.

So, why all the focus on more HP?

I tell you what, my wifes '05 Mariner 3.0 v6 (same as the Escapes) is much quicker off the line then my '01 SP with 4.10ls in the back! Of course the 3.0 runs out of steam pretty fast and doesn't have near the torque that the ST has.
