Well, the sport trac's brakes have been kinda iffy for about the last 4 months...when you're driving through town i hear this chirp noise at a certain part of the wheels rotation each time..i figured the brakes were hanging up a little and didnt think anything of it...well today, i stopped at a light and let the brake off when the light turned green, and the trac didnt move. i had to give it gas to move and then each tire rotation came with a loud squeal and a shudder which i figured were the brakes holding the truck back...i could feel it through the steering wheel, and the noises seem to be coming from the front. i took it to my local mechanic and he said there could be rust on the brakes...does this sound right? they may have about 20k on them, but i know they do have the original rotors...what else could be wrong?

Thanks

Andy

The noise could be the wear sensors making noise. As for the hanging up, The slides may not have been grease properly at the last tim the brakes where changed. OR the pads are trashed and grinding the pedal back on the rotor....

Pull the wheels and check the pads first. If they are ok, Remove the calipers and lube the slides...

Sounds like your calipers are sticking..you can rebuild them or exchange them...if you have any experiance rebuild is easy, if not exchange for rebuilt are not very exspensive...

I see you have an '01 st...if you have never serviced the calipers or flushed the brake system...my experiance has been caliper pistons sticking...
