just placed an order for front brakes for my 01 ST 4x4

bought raybestos rotors and semi metallic pads( not worried about dust)

for $98.51 shipped.

cheaper than i could buy them locally for the raybestos brand parts.

now for the question.

i assumed the front rotors are separate from the hub on the 4x4 model,

would i be right?

if so then its pretty much a straight forward brake job similar to the one

i did on my former 4x4 truck.

remove calipers,

slide off rotors,

slide on new rotors,

open caliper bleeders and compress pistons( clean pistons first with brake clean),

close bleeder,

remove old pads,

replace pads,

reinstall caliper,

top off master cylinder,

press brake pedal to engage pads,

retop off master cylinder.

did i miss anything?

Be shure to clean the new rotors with some brake cleaner. They may have a coating on them from the factory...

Since your going to remove the rotors go ahead and re-pack the bearings. You may want to buy new seals as well. You can use the old ones but you may damage them during removal. They're about 5 bucks each.

No bearings to re-pack on the Trac as in his case, it is a 4X4. They are sealed, you can not get to them. Only on the 2 wheel drive can you re-pack the bearings...

i went back and figured it up and it saved me $30 over advance autos

prices for the same raybestos parts.

You will need to bleed the brakes after you have opened the bleed nut to push the pads back in.. I would recommend that your completely flush the old brake fluid at all 4 wheels and add all fresh fluid since you have to bleed the brakes anyway. Since you should flush your brake fluid every 2-3 years, it's something I always do when doing a brake job.
