front differential noise

My front differential has been making a whining sound for a while. Anyone have any ideas? Also, the pinion seal has started to leak again. I replaced it 2 yrs ago. I don't know if the 2 are related.

Try filling the diff for now. It will make noise if it's low....before it runs dry and craps out altogether. The front diff does not unlock in 2wd, it turns all the time.

What JohnnyO said.... I had the same problem. Make sure the front differential is full and get the seal replaced again. Just had my seal replaced for the 1st time about a month ago...

Look at the hub and bearing assembly!
