I bought a replacement for my stolen GPS today. It is a garmin nuvi 200. It is pre-loaded with Eastern European maps. Does anyone here know a source where I can download maps for Western Europe and the US? On the Garmin website, it appears you can only buy maps on memory cards, which seems like a waste of money, plus I need the maps for Germany next Friday, if possible.

You would have to buy them directly from Garmin.

You really have no other choice.

This affordable entry-level Personal Travel Assistant comes with preloaded maps for the continental U.S., Hawaii and Puerto Rico or regional coverage in other areas

That is the description of the 200. Did you get it from someone in Europe? Check the software version and see if it is the very latest, if not and you bought it new Garmin will send you a CD with the latest version. I bought my Nuvi 350 and they sent me a new CD with the latest version on it. I had to register my Nuvi before I could find that out. BTW I love mine. The CD is copy protected and needs a key to unlock.

, the guy had inquired about trying to find newer software for his Nuvi and Tech support replied this.

I recently got a NUVI 200 with the v8 NA maps (same day as the post). After reading the forum I sent a quick note to Garmin tech support two days ago and here's the response I received today:

"I am happy to help you with this. Your Gps unit currently has the most up to date map data available. The next release will be approximately the summer of 2007 @ $75.00. You can order an update DVD from http://www.garmin.com/unlock/update.jsp , then click on the Order Now button, however keep in mind a newer version then what you already have pre-loaded is not available at this time. I have also provided a link below to report map errors and missing data to Garmin, this allows us to pass along such discrepancies to our mapping provider Navteq."

Paul, yes I got it from a store in Poland, where I live. I am trying to add maps for Western Europe and the US for my trip next week.
