I just swapped out all my speakers (Boston Acoustic component spk in the front and JL Audio midrange in the back door) and noticed a huge diffrence. I was wondering if anybody has replaced the subwoofer speaker only (and continued using the factory supplied amp and housing). I am curious how much better sound we could get with a speaker that has a wider range and uses less power. Any suggestions..

Hey Henry
How is your ST doing? I have a 2010 Adrenalin and am considering speaker upgrades

If you tell me the size of the driver and the size and type of box that it’s in with the watts that the amp have. And I’ll run the numbers on a few ( well a lot ) of subwoofer drivers and tell you how well the could do in the oem box. I’ll also be able to give the spl and other numbers on them. Also how low and at what spl it could produce
This will take me about a week of doing this. I’m in the middle of redoing my 2 Channel audio room. I have 8 turntables and don’t know how I’ll set them up. Lol

Just a few of the items I have to stuff into the room

i have 3 8s and a 10 in custom enclosures and if your trying to get a hard hit ya have to get out of factory enclosure and match it up and center it. i tried with factory enclosures and if ya want a hard hit you have to move to a flowing location. nice tube amps have not seen quality like that since the 80s pure clean power..pricey!!

Do you have any plans for the build of the sub boxes for your ST ?

the rear had a little more hit in center but wanted to keep a seat up if needed so installed a little off center, tried under seat with 2 and did not sound good so after trying a few locations we went with what is pictured, the 3 8s are in middle console, was not a ton of room to work with. i also was trying to keep it a simple bolt on so i can remove easy with out damage.

I used a 8 inch Rockford Fosgate shollow mount. It sounds pretty good but way too much for factory amp. Not enough power for full potential of speaker. However sounds good enough for me.

thats what matters... how it sounds to you.. i was born deaf in one ear and less then half in other so what is loud to me is deadly to others...

the factory amp can not drive any new replacement speaker.... the low OHM and dual coil and other factors come into play. Just replace the set up and you will be way happier. I added a second OEM box on the passenger side and it hit amazing impressed stereo heads here....

Yes! I’d like to know as well, since I just replaced my factory 6 disc changer head unit for a Sony Apple Car Play unit that sounds clean, but sub though working, lacks depth. I’d like to use same enclosure/amp if all possible. I don’t need to rattle other cars windows in traffic bass, just enough for my cabin. I’m in the process also of replacing factory door drivers with JBL separates. Great choices Henry on your components! Any ideas on factory sub box would be highly appreciated!
