Gen 2 Tailgate top piece

The top piece (black plastic trip strip) on the top of my tailgate is busted loose again. Last time Ford replaced it under warranty. Not sure why mine keeps breaking- I don't think I am abusing it or anything.



Anyone have this problem? Any long-term fixes?

Yes, mine on the '07 is extremely loose. I need to buy a new on and install it.

Mine has been busted/broken since about 2 months after I took delivery. I broke it though so I never pursued having it fixed under warranty. I just live with it. Never moves with the hard cover in place, and when I open/close I expect it so handle it gently.



Anyone got any photos of what exactly is broken on it so I can devise a better fix? I bet a new piece would just break the same.

YUP !! Closing the tailgate with the OEM cover down or using that plastic to close the tailgate, breaks the clips on the plastic....



I repaired mine with 3/8 tree fasteners, drilled the plastic piece where the clip goes and installed 4 clips... they are concealed under the OEM cover and problem solved...



Piss poor ford design...
