Question? After the flush do you still need to add the bottle of friction modifier that was required for the 2004 and some 2005 Tracs?

Ohhhh, that is a good question....

I suppose the answer lies in the fluid itself.

Does the newer style fluid have the friction modifier in?

If Someone was to walk into Wallmart for example and buy fluid would it be good to go or be lacking the friction modifier?

It depends on if you have them do just a flush (option 1) or a flush plus a new filter and gasket (option 2).

Option 1 - Around $70

Option 2 - Around $110

Prices around here were from $55-$129 for the flush only (no dropping the pan and not filter change)

I paid $85 for the flush because they used 10 quarts of 100% synthetic Mecron-V fluid. The Sport Trac requires Mercon-V which from the factory is a semi-synthetic. Some places will quote a lower price for regular fluid flushes, but when they find out the Sport Trac requires Mercon-V, the price can be a little higher. Others just charge $100 or more and include the higher fluid cost in the price for everybody.

Some places will charge more because they want to include an additive to clean out the transmission. That is an expensive additive that is not required, nor recommended as long as you have been changing/flushing your fluid on a regular basis.

Teddy,

If you bought a new 2005 you do not need it. So don't worry about it. Only affect 2004 and the very early 2005's. If your's did need it then the dealer would have put it in prior to it being sold. If you are still worried, call the dealer, he's the only person who can answer your question.
