When your wife calls you to tell you her brand new (6 days old) all options Ford Escape just got sandwiched between and F-250 and a Durango. The F-250 wasn't paying attention to the stopped traffic at the light and slammed into her which in turn slammed her into the Durango.

My wife is fine just shaken up. This was her first new car and I don't think it will be totaled, no airbag deployment, hood all folded up, rad support pushed in a little, front fenders look ok, door gaps are a little off, no glass broken and rear hatch and bumper is crushed in. No pics yet, happened last night.

Hate to her that man.,. GLAD she is ok,,, thats the ONLY thing that matters in this situation....

I have had EVERY new car i owned hit by some one else with in the first 6 months....

My 03 was rear ended on the way home from the dealer !!!

Again, Glad she is ok !!

Join the club! At least you didn't get to make two payments before your new car was creamed like me! Nothing beats driving a wrecked vehicle with 46 more payments!

I'm glad she was OK.

Thanx for the kind words.

yea we're in the wrecked car with zero payments made club.

My wife talked to USAA and they said to get some inherent diminished value from the other insurance company before it is fixed? USAA said most insurance companies won't tell you that, especially the at fault parties company. The car will never be the same and value will go down now that it has been wrecked.

Stad,

Diminished value claims (DVC) and their applicability seems to vary from state to state, and most insurance companies don't want you to know about them. If you can file and get money on a DVC then by all means do so.

Do some research, though. Possibly with an attorney that specializes in such cases. We all know that insurance companies are supposed to put your car into original, showroom condition, but the truth of the matter is that just isn't 100% possible, and you may very well be asked when you go to sell the vehicle if it has ever been in an accident. You have to answer that question truthfully. When you do, most buyers will use your answer as a reason to offer less.
