I think it is a hoax! Most of the Grand Canyon is owned by the Haupua (sp?) Indian tribe and lies on their reservation as well as it being a National Park. For that reason, I think the article is bogus.

Look at the date on the original article linked in the second posting on this thread, and then consider that the source from Eddie's article is "Weekly World Standard"-a supermarket tabloid famous for publishing stories about alien abduction, Elvis sightings, etc.
