took my vette out today for a spin. pulled up to a 09 saturn sky red line (260HP) and when the light turned i pulled away at a good distance. then we went again a mile or so at about 70mph and i had trouble shaking him at about 80-110 mph. it was close but i was able to pull away slowly.

we pulled over and to chat and he was surprised that my 21 year old vette only had 240 HP.

the L-98 is good off the line (340 lb. ft. torque), but losses steam in the upper bands.

checked out the sky and it looks good and not to bad for a 4cyl.

btw, this was done a very rural road out east.

I really like the Saturn Sky's. I look the looks of them and that Redline model is pretty quick.

Gary, didn't GM pull the plug on Saturn, recently? Thought I heard that.

Since both Saturn and Pontiac went bye-bye that means no more Sky or Solstice. GM would dumb not to rebadge the Solstice as a Chevy.

gary,

Your 'vette weighs ~3200 lbs, while the Sky weighs ~2990 lbs. That's probably one big reason why he was able to keep up with you.

GM would dumb not to rebadge the Solstice as a Chevy.

That'll never happen as long as there's a Corvette in production. Chevy would never market another two-seat sports car that could detract from Corvette sales.

darn good looking cars, but would never run one with the stang, total waste of gas at 2.7 MPG under 8 lbs of boost:lol:

I had a Solstice as a shop car. It's the Sky's sister. What a piece. The interior creaked and groaned, the top is a horrible design, and if you're not 5'6", and 110, it's physically painful to get in and out of. I wasn't impressed.

12.98 @ 119.

That don't add up. AT 119 mph you should be somewhere around the 11.8ish range unless you are not getting any kind of traction off the line and it is just hitting SUPER hard at midtrack but even at that it's a stretch. I think a 12.9 should be about 110 mph or so. My IS350 will run it in 13.2 at 105 and that's bone stock.

I'm not trying to stir up anything...the times and mph just seem off to me is all.

Traction is a major issue, main problem is the driver tho

I can relate. I don't know how many different trips to the strip it took me in my 68 Camaro without making any changes to finally put down a solid run 12.8 @ 109 with a mouse 327 and a glide...anyone who thinks drag racing is just mash the gas and go is sorely mistaken

That true, last time i dragged a car was 1963, we had flags, no lgts, was in my 20s.

am in my 60s today, reaction times are not great, 60 ft times of 2 secs are not a good thing.

The car has been modded since the last time out, 295 DRs.new LCAs, with welded drop brackets, could maybe run a low 12, maybe a high 11 with the right driver.

will not be me, hell to get old:angry:

bill,

in 1963 you say you were in the 20's. was that the 1/4 mile time

true, launching a manual trans at the strip is not so easy.
